Cameroon

Our stay in Cameroon was rather short. After crossing the border in the north of the country, we went to Bafoussam in the Kingdom of Bamum and then stopped in the capital Yaoundé to get more visas. The last stop was in Mbalmayo, where we visited a local NGO and a Christian mission. To our - and their - surprise, we met a Swiss nun who enjoyed our visit and the feeling of home that it brought.

The police checkpoints on the streets of Cameroon were sometimes the most terrifying of our journey. Quite a few of the police officers we encountered had a minor or moderate alcohol problem and were often well buzzed early in the morning. We mastered these challenging moments with our positive attitude and didn't let anything happen to us anywhere.

We would have liked to see more of this beautiful country, but due to the tense political situation and our experiences with the authorities, we unfortunately decided not to. But as we all know, postponed is not abandoned.
